Built-in cellular module CALYX 5G Red Cap Raspberry Pi HAT+
Teltonika CALYX 5G Red Cap is a compact mobile module (HAT+) designed for seamless integration with Raspberry Pi 4 and 5. It is an ideal solution for projects where Wi Fi or Ethernet is unavailable, unreliable, or where globally dependable backup connectivity is required.
Design and installation
The module is mounted directly onto the Raspberry Pi using the 40-pin GPIO header and forms a unified physical unit with the board, replacing cable clutter with a clean and compact design. It features two SMA male antenna connectors.
Connection reliability
This 5G RedCap (Reduced Capability) version delivers the reliability and low latency of 5G networks without the high power consumption and cost of a full-scale 5G modem.
Low profile and durability
Its low-profile form factor efficiently saves space and removes the need for bulky external modems, ensuring robust and resilient connectivity for critical applications. With an operating temperature range from -40 °C to +75 °C it is ideal for outdoor installations and industrial environments.
Power and data
Power and high-speed data transfer take place via the USB-C interface supporting USB 3.0 or through the GPIO interface with stable 5 V and 3.3 V DC input.
GPIO management
Advanced management of Raspberry Pi GPIO pins enables remote modem control. You can restart, wake or fully power the module off and on remotely, ensuring maximum network availability even in critical or inaccessible applications.
PCM audio
Integrated PCM audio support ensures clean low low-latency audio transmission, which is ideal for applications requiring high-quality voice communication.
Use of the CALYX 5G Red Cap modem
It is an excellent choice for IoT applications with medium data rate requirements, typically systems with many sensors, where operational efficiency and long service life are crucial. Teltonika is among the first pioneers of 5G RedCap technology for Raspberry Pi. Currently, there is no other Raspberry Pi HAT on the market with 5G RedCap support. CALYX 5G RedCap therefore fills a gap in the market and offers a future-proof solution for the emerging era of 5G IoT.
