At the start of 2021, Teltonika introduced new security and simplification improvements for the RUTX router and TRB gateway product line.
One of the new implementations is the latest WiFi security standard WPA3 and the end of support for the WPA standard. WPA3 comes 14 years after its predecessor and addresses previously identified password vulnerabilities and new security options. Among other things, it also offers individualized encryption for personal and open networks, and even improved encryption for corporate networks transmitting sensitive data.
Another improvement is the support for external modems from Quectel. The new firmware allows you to connect an external modem via USB and thus expand the existing Teltonika device, or add the possibility of mobile connection to devices that did not originally support the connection. Using this innovation, we are able to secure LTE duality, enable remote management, secure backups, or enable the devices to support NB-IoT or LTE-CatM1, which are highly important for industrial applications and provide even greater flexibility in IoT.
Teltonika also comes with the option of including individual operators on a whitelist or blacklist. Sing this function, you can limit the list of specific operators, or block them, for example, due to roaming, high data charges, or poor signal strength in specific area. This feature is especially important in transportation industry where devices are often in motion.
The OpenWrt system, on which RutOS itself is based, was also updated. OpenWRT is known primarily for its high standard of security, scalability, high stability, performance, but also community support. As a result of the system update, security, speed and reliability were increased, as well as the error correction in the RutOS system.
